8 Foods that will help you burn calories

Burn calories!!

Yes, you’ve read it correctly. There are foods out there that have a high thermogenic effect to help burn calories. This means that they can boost your metabolism, and help you burn calories as you are eating.
Always keep in mind that there is no magic formula that helps you lose the weight you want without the right amount of effort. These foods will definitely help you reach your goal faster; however, pairing them with exercise and dedication is key.
Here are 8 foods that have been shown to give your metabolism a boost:

Celery:

The old myth that celery helps you burn more calories than it actually contains is true. If you don’t personally like its taste, combine it with other food on your plate, or add it to your smoothies!

Try the following recipe: 2 cups fresh blueberries, 1 banana, 1 celery stalk, 1 cup water, 1 cup orange juice and a few ice cubes (Ice cubes are added to give the juice a smooth consistency)

Lean protein:

Not only will lean proteins keep you satisfied throughout the day, but they also will boost your post-meal calorie burn by 30%! Increasing your protein intake will speed up your metabolism while encouraging lean muscle growth. Here are a few examples of lean protein that you should add to your diet: lean ground beef, eggs, skinless chicken or turkey, lentils, low fat/nonfat dairy, fish, tofu, and nuts.

Whole Grains:

Healthier than refined grains, whole grains are rich in minerals, various vitamins and carbohydrates, and they are also low in fat. Additionally, they will keep you full for a long period of time since it takes more time to digest whole grains than it does to digest refined grains. Try adding quinoa, brown rice, and oatmeal to your diet.

Green Tea:

Green tea is often considered the healthiest drink on the planet, which comes as no surprise. Drinking three to five cups of green tea can help you burn up to 80 calories per day. If you don’t like the bitterness of the tea, add a teaspoon of organic honey or even a little ginger to sweeten it up.

Cucumber:

Made up almost entirely of water, cucumbers help hydrate your body. Slice them up, and toss them in your salad, or even put them on top of whole wheat toast with ricotta, and you are good to go.

Ginger:

High in antioxidants, ginger promotes digestion and stimulates the metabolism, which leads to an increase in calorie burning. Ginger has many benefits when it comes to motion sickness, congestion and nausea. A great way to incorporate ginger in your diet is to drink ginger tea. Simply add finely chopped ginger to boiled water and once the tea has steeped for 2 minutes, strain out the ginger.

Lemon water:

Not only does drinking lemon water help flush toxins out of the body, but it also helps to speed up weight loss without adding any calories to your diet. Another benefit of drinking lemon water? Ladies you will love this: clear skin. The vitamin C component helps decrease blemishes, rejuvenates the skin, and gives you healthy glowing skin.

Spinach:

Packed with Vitamin B, spinach will lead to a more productive metabolism and help your muscles recover after a workout. My personal favorite way to add spinach to my diet is to toss a handful in my morning Cherry Almond Spinach Smoothie – ¼ cup raw almonds (soaked in water overnight), 1 cup water, 1 cup frozen cherries, 1 frozen banana, 1 cup orange juice and a handful of spinach.
